Hello! I decided to start this blog as a way to share information about assistive technology (AT), augmentative-alternative communication (AAC) and speech therapy ideas. My day job gives me the opportunity to provide assistive technology solutions to individuals with spinal cord injuries and acquired brain injuries. But at night, I come home and continue to think about all of the other people out there who don’t have access to services and solutions for my current clients.
Typically, when my clients return home from therapy, they talk to other people in their support network and then come back to me and say that their friends never heard of these solutions and wish they had a therapist to help. They never had the opportunity to be educated and trial solutions. Unfortunately, insurance does not cover assistive technology services so many individuals are not able to see an experienced assistive technology professional for a comprehensive and ongoing evaluation based on their needs, abilities, and goals. But I want everyone to have access to these services. There is so many solutions available for individuals with disabilities to help with work, school, and daily activities. Why can’t I share what I know with the world and help everyone? So here we are. If you ever have a question or want someone to help problem solve, please reach out! Also, if you have a solution that you think may help someone else, let us know!
